He eventually transferred into an orphanage where he was taught to analyze, to grow, to become next in line for L, the greatest detective in the world-- --until that detective failed. Mello left everything behind, joining up with the mafia in order to become the best, to avenge his mentor, to have the murderer's head on a platter and to do it all before his rival could.
